October- Lavender

A calming violet flower to guide us into Fall

With the amazingly warm weather that we have had at the Farm, our Lavender plants have continued growing despite the end of the summer months. Gifting the land a soft scent and stunning blue/grey (almost turquoise) foliage.

Lavender is native to the Mediterranean but is cultivated worldwide.

It loves our sandy soil and hot summers with lots of sun. It grows in a mound shape approximately two feet high with woody stems and purple flowers.

This plant has many calming and relaxing properties, promoting sleep and rest, and relaxation for the

body, mind and spirit.

Topically, it can soothe skin irritations and promote healing with its antiseptic properties.

Medicinally, it is often used as an aid for headaches, sore throats and indigestion.

The flowers and leaves have many uses and can be found in oils, teas, lotions, soaps, tinctures, and smudge bundles, among other things.

At the Log Barn Studio we harvest the flower and the foliage stems, to use fresh and/or dried in our floral creations. Its fragrance being why Lavender is one of our favourites.
